Suppliers of engine oil

Post by en7jos »

Hi All,

A question: Where do people buy their engine oil from? I'll soon have two bikes back home that will be in need of oil so I thought it probably worth ordering a big can of monograde from somewhere. Any recommendations?

Someone mentioned 'Silgo Lubricants Ltd' in another thread and I'm just waiting for them to get back to me with prices. Their classic oils (Silkolene) brochure is attached. I guess it is the 'Osmaston 50 Classic' I'd be looking at for a SAE 50 mineral non-detergent monograde.

And how about suppliers for the 'semi-fluid grease' used in CP gearboxes?

Cheers, James

Hi James,

You can also look at Morris Lubricants http://www.morrislubricants.co.uk/scrip ... tegory=138

and Castrol Classic http://www.castrol.com/castrol/sectiong ... Id=7027142

I have ordered from both and currently use Morris as their prices were more attractive.

They both do a semi-fluid grease used by pre 1948 CP gearboxes.

hope you all have a safe journey :P

I got several boxes of chateau-boxed Bordeaux at €12 each (3 litres) - about €3 (£2.70) a bottle from the supermarket. Less embarrassing at recycling time as with bottles the bin men can't lift our plastic box.......

Cheers all, will check out those options. I just got an email back from Silgo lubricants with pricing on the straight 50 they supply - seems a bit expensive:

The OSMASTON 50 come in a box of (4 x 5) priced at £6.95ppl = £139.00p plus VAT
Cost for delivery to London would be £5. Delivery to West Midlands would be £15.
Lead time from order approx 7/8 days.

Prices seem to be as follows, with 'Stationary Engine Parts' being the cheapest:

Morris Lubricants - Golden Film 50 (25 litres) @ £96.91 with free delivery
Stationary Engine Parts - Morris Golden Film 50 (5 litres x 5) @ £94.44 (inc £9.95 delivery)
Castrol mail order - GP50 (20 litres) @ £93.05 with free delivery
Silgo Lubricants - Silkolene Osmaston 50 (5 litres x 4) @ £166.80 (plus £5-15 delivery)

For semi-fluid grease for old CP boxes:

Castrol mail order - Castrol Spheerol L/EPO (500g) @ £7.75 with free delivery
Morris Lubricants - K400EP (3kg) @ £20.34 (+ £3.95 delivery if order total <£60)

So Morris Lubricants direct seem to be the best value all round for a grease plus oil order I guess.

The Castrol mail order price list is also attached.

Best deal is Morris 25ltr straight 50.

I have a discount card for halfords so if stuck get a deal on their classic 20/50 which is ok in my twin.

Just went to order some oil and grease from Morris Lubricants and noticed there was a box to enter a promotional code at the checkout. Did a quick search and found that many of the classic car and bike clubs have a 10% discount scheme - can we perhaps get this get up for us too? The advertised promo code for the Bugatti owner's club (BUG888) was out of date, so I gave BUG999 a shot and low and behold it worked knocking 10% of the order!

So enter "BUG999" if you order anything to get the 10% discount.
