Magneto repairs

Post by Moorjock »

I've recently had my Lucas NC1 magneto repaired by Tony Cooper in Halesowen, West Midlands. phone 01215 592405.
I can't speak too highly of the man, a very knowledgeable bloke providing a quick turnaround of 2 weeks in my case...even returned the old components and vastly improved the previous 'expert' rebuild.
The cost did not make me gasp and I would not hesitate in using him again.

I don't know if our moderator will allow this next paragraph but here goes - The reason I had to use Tony was that the magneto had been completely refurbished 13 months previously by a Bristol based specialist who had my precious magneto for seven months and then charged me £300 for the work. It failed after only 1050 miles had elapsed, apparently it was a mismatch of major components that caused the failure. Enough said.

I used FTW in Sheffield with good results.
A tricky dilemma in your case, if you are referring to a very well known Bristol supplier it will come as a shock to many. Rather than assuming the worst a quick PM to you from potential users would be the way to go I think.
I've got three to get done shortly, I was thinking of using FTW again, but that includes two-way postage so I am on the lookout for somebody to take them to at Kempton next month.

Tony Copper is recommended by many. I've used him and was well pleased. I've not heard *any* gripes about his service. Compare and contrast, as they say.

Paul Lydford at APL Magnetos (01747 852136) has reconditioned several for me over the last few years. He works to an excellent standard with rapid turnaround. The only time I ever had a problem (caused by a faulty batch of slip rings) he replaced the item by return and free of charge.

In addition to Tony Cooper and Dave Lindsley , many in Essex and Suffolk use Ted Salmon in Burnham on Crouch.

I think you may have missed nothing with Tony Coopers Phone Number it should be if dialling within the UK 0121 559 2405.

You can add the 44 and drop the leading zero if dialling from outside the UK.
