I've just fitted a 12v alternator to my 16MS and have attached the rec/reg with sticky pads to the side of the muguard, under the saddle, just above the oil tank.
I think there should be an air flow in the 'duct' so formed .. time will tell

Thanks for all the replies.
Clearly a lot of different ideas and no failures ( touch wood) so i am probably worried about nothing.
I think I will pick up on you design, LynP, and try doing something similar using the hole for the air filter and direct the airflow - just in case
