Don't worry about not being able to start it at first. Even with the starting procedure MikeM has explained, they can all be slightly different. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.rob4586 wrote:Good evening chaps,
I've just joined the forum after buying a 1951 Matchless G9 this weekend.
I look forward to getting her running and enjoying the ride...there isn't much to be done, but currently I don't even know how to start her!
Regards,
Rob

Welcome Rob. Lots of useful information, advice and good humour to be had here, as you've no doubt already noticed!
Keep shiny side up.

How many miles to Poland Les.
Or how the bike is getting there [/quote]
I didn't say that I was riding it all the way to Poland, will ride to Harwich, then in the van with Dudley, then the rides out in Poland, back in the van to Harwich, then ride back home. Total ridden mileage probably about 500, my arthritis wont cope with much more these days. But I have no doubt that the G9 would go all the way without problems, it is just the old man in the saddle that has the problems

Wow, what a great response. It is great to hear from you all and I thank you for your offers of assistance (plenty of that will be required).
It is also reassuring to hear what a good bike the G9 is. She certainly put a smile on my face the other day when I had my first ride.
Cheers,
Rob

Same with the G80S, it's usually me that's the problem. My plan is to ride to Polish IJR.
Apart from the failure to arrive in Germany the other year.
