Clutch actuating lever jammed â—ï¸
Riding back from Cheltenham to home 90 miles away !!!
The clutch cable has slipped out of the actuator arm which is making a graunching
noise and not returning to its lower position.
Any ideas ....... is there a return spring that may have gone ?
Am trying to resolve how to sort this out while awaiting the AA

Hi
The lever inside the gearbox outer cover returns under pressure from the 3 clutch pressure springs - if it's not returning it sounds like the push rod or clutch plate stack has jammed.
Regards Mick

So the cable has not seized or broken. Just pulled in the clutch lever and it wont return? The lever should return, Unless thrust rod has seized. or the nut etc has come loose perhaps come off the clutch. The clutch springs should close the clutch, pushing the thrust rod through to snap the levers back taking up all the slack in the cable, which is not happening for you. That's about all I can think of for you to consider and investigate.
Two replies Mick agrees. look at the clutch end nut etc has not come off its its all intact thrust rod may have jammed.

Hi
Good point Rob - if the clutch is still engaged then the adjuster screw and lock nut in the centre of the pressure plate may have backed off.
Regards Mick

Possibly the end plate has either come out of the outer basket or off the end of the centre depending on setup, internal or external tangs.

Had a similar problem three or four years ago which turned out to be the clutch basket/Cush drive nut coming loose

Thanks one and all for your informative replies. ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
Just got home an hour ago after a huge detour due to a closure on the part
of the A 40 I broke down on being closed ! 😜
Will have a look at the clutch tomorrow ðŸðŸ’¨

If the kick starter will turn the engine over, could be the clutch trust rod adjuster has come off. It the clutch is open so not able to turn the engine over, could be the trust rod has seized, or as Rob suggested plates stuck or end plate popped out. I would had thought, the latter fault would have showed up quickly after doing work on the clutch or tighten up cable adjustment.

Thanks again for all your input, have just had a quick look and the push rod was mushroomed at both ends.
Have cleaned them up and reassembled but the problem is still there !Look like I will have to take the gearbox outer cover off
To see what is going on.

Will I have to tie the kickstart lever to the gear pedal Before removing the cover ?
should I expect parts to fly out ? !!!
