G9 pinion gear

Post by ducati2242 »

The pinion gear on my 1955 G9 has a split in it directly above the keyway running in the same direction . I thought , at first , that it was broken but on inspection the " crack" looks as though it is machined . it is perfectly straight and has a flat face to face neat fit . is this supposed to be like that . the feeler is only .35mm so the gap is small but it looks deliberate to me .

spares scheme seem to have them in stock so have bought one anyway but it could be useful to know for the future . The more I think about it there is no reason for this gap and I don't know how it could be cut as there is no gap without the feeler . Could cause untold damage if the other side broke .

Shouldn,t be a gap, someone has done it up too tight onto the tapered shaft.

Just had a look at a spare one I have no split and yes it is a parallel shaft.
