Gearbox guts: AMC shift forks?

Post by rcousine »

So, I have a little gearbox problem, and now I have questions.

1958 18CS, AMC gearbox. I pulled it apart to change the gearbox shell, and I found more problems. I need to change a shifter fork that is trying to crack in two.

Questions:
-my part number is 040119 for both shift forks. All online references seem to say 040022. Is this latter part number compatible with my bits?

-I also have a brass sleeve on one gear that looks...nibbled. Most of the bushing is intact, but the edge is chipped away. Is this unimportant, serious, or "well, since you're in the gearbox anyway, might as well change it..."?

Look on the Andover Norton website in the featherbed singles and twins section. Click on the gearbox sub section and you will find colour pictures of all the bits for the box that are available. Selector forks both ones are there as well as gears. They also supply a rebuild kit which includes all springs, bearings, bushes and upgraded X section oil seals .
