WD Matchless and Tanks

Post by Eamonn »

The club has received the following email -

Let me introduce myself: I am the secretary of the National Tank Transporter Reunion Branch; the Branch is part of the RASC/RCT Association and our aim is to foster the comradeship and friendship across all ranks who have served, or are still serving in the Tank Transporter Trade in the British Army. This includes all attached arms (eg REME, ACC, RAPC RAOC etc) who have or are serving within Tank Transporter Units. As you can imagine we have members from World War 2 up to the present day.

We hold an annual reunion at The Adelphi Hotel in central Liverpool and this year it is be held from the 25th - 29th October (we are expecting in excess of 300 former tank transporter all ranks to attend this reunion weekend). We will be fortunate enough to have a Diamond T Tank Transporter and Rogers Trailer on display outside the Adelphi on the morning of Saturday 27th October and we would like to compliment the display with a motorcycle of the type that would have been used as an escort for the Diamond T.

Research has found that the Matchless 41G3L 350 cc was used by wartime tank transporter units together with the BSA M20. Would any of your members be the owner of either of these two motorcycles? And, if so, would they be willing to display them at the Adelphi with the Diamond T. We would, of course reimburse any fuel costs and provide refreshments. If this is possible we would be extremely grateful and I can forward more details in the future.

Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.
Please email tt.secretary@ttreunion.co.uk

Kind regards
Ian Lloyd

Ps. I found your website from an ad in Classic Military Vehicle magazine
