Hi think this is one of those problems where you have to be patient and persistent . If you are now satisfied that the carb is spot on then look for another cause . Have you considered that one of the valves might be sticking ? Have a quick look at the top end just to eliminate that potential cause .
Cheers Chris

Any possibility valve timing is off? ;)

I tentatively alluded to a valve problem back on page 2 so I assume that it had been considered and dismissed.

Not at all. The valves are on my list of things to look at this weekend. I thought I'd look at the more obvious (to me anyway) things first. Thanks :)

Oops, my bad Janet. I didn't re read the topic or wouldn't have made the suggestion again.

After several weeks/days/hours I have finally sussed it (thanks for asking!) I had to use tweezers to pull any remaining hair out!

I bought a new coil just to eliminate it from the equation, the old one had been wrapped in foam under the tank and I assumed it might be cooked.

Anyway, after rebuilding the carb yet again, with the correct jets according to the book.

It's the advance retard unit that appears to be stuffed. I double checked the timing and it's spot on.

I experimented by wedging the unit fully open with lolly sticks. It fired up straight away and revs, ticks over and behaves itself with no unburnt fuel or pops and bangs. I am very happy.

What I would like to know is where do I locate a new advance retard unit for my points model M16.

Can anyone advise me on a part number and possible tell me what is compatible with it please? At a guess it might fit other singles like Beeza C15s or Tiger Cubs etc.?

Thanks in advance.

https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Nos-Lucas-Auto- ... :rk:1:pf:0I would check with the appropriate parts lists available but this might do. Failing that try feked or draganfly I think ariel ones fit. Could be wrong though.

Are you setting the timing with the bobweights in their relaxed position or jammed open with lollypop sticks. I use the old wooden pegs. Made for the job
