Re: Matchless V-Twin
I would hazard a guess and say it's a Matchless Model X, which were built between 1929 and 1940. It's 990cc and the engine was also used by Brough Superior.

Re: Matchless V-Twin
Actually the Matchless model X was 1929, in 1930 it became X/2 then onwards to X/4 and XR/? variations. In 1937 / 40 it reverted back to be known as model X. I would normally expect to see an engine stamped 37/X followed by a 3 or 4 digit number, a frame with a 3 or 4 digit number, perhaps with X suffix. but would need to be seen to confirm if it was a model X or some other model frame. Very rarely will the engine number have an additional letter or 2 added. Then its guess work as to what a letter may be referring to, like A if fitted with Amal instead of Bowden levers. I have rarely seen F2 added to an engine number, lets guess there may had been something non standard about the forks fitted..
