I have two 1957 Ajays-one with dynamo/mag set up and the other alternator/coil ignition.
They're both running on 6 volt positive earth with LED bulbs.
My headlight is more than adequate now since swapping over to the LED lamps and they both start and run well.
Being as they're obviously kick started there isn't anything to draw much current.
My question is, is there any great advantage of switching to 12v electrics, apart from being able to buy bulbs and batteries at Halfords?
Thank you in advance.
6 or 12v? Opinions please

Hi
Not in my opinion, unless you like spending money for the sake of it.

I did a 12v conversion on the beast. In hindsight knowing what I do now about LED lighting I would have flashed the dynamo to negative earth and stuck with six volts and LED's. The reason for negative earth being greater accessibility to LED bulbs.

I have enough problems with six volts, with twice as many volts twelve would be beyond me , seriously 6v does me fine either with mag or coil ignition.

My 6 volt has been fine but I have dispensed with the original rectifier set up on my lightweight and fitted a modern A REG reg/rect but a nice LED headlamp would be great

Now that you can get LED lights, 6v with magneto is just fine.
With coil ignition, I prefer 12v. Better spark, less point wear, possibility to use electronic ignition, etc.
