Primary Chain Oil

Post by NZMatchless »

Whats your thoughts of running a 53 G9 without primary chain oil bath, Im fed up with the leaks, and thinking give it a squirt of oil now and then. Would the clutch still be ok?

Definately not! Chain, sprockets, clutch bearings and mainshaft shock absorber would get hammered. Get the improved club seal. Its easy to fit and oiltight. Also don't put too much oil in. Only just level with the very bottom of the chain is plenty.

That would be from the club spares scheme but you don't appear to be a member.

Are the seals worth trying I'm undecided whether to get my chaincase painted but I'm loathed to split it as it doesn't leak at the moment

Hmmm

I'd be tempted to leave well alone and plan to replace with a Club seal when the case next needs splitting.

I've just replaced my seal with one of the new fat, squiggy Club seals - at last, it's looking good! :)

One of my bikes stood for a year unused with oil in the chaincase using the new seal. No sign of leaking.
