That other spacer is slightly more than 1/2" OD and doesn't seem to fit on anything well. The screw was just the one and the head is shorter than the timing case ones.clive wrote:I thought the second spacer might be behind the sprocket on the gearbox for the final drive. If it is then it goes behind the sprocket to space it away from the bearing. The screw looks to be one of the timing case screws but I am not convinced of that how many have you got?

Re: Mystery Parts?
There are only two components with a taper and a keyway on a '54 18S that I can think of. One is the dynamo driven sprocket.
The timing side axle pinion driving the cam gears has a keyway and the axle is tapered.
Didn't you also find another rogue part - a timing side 'bush' made from steel?
However, your mystery part is neither a sprocket nor a pinion.
Sadly, (or not ) I rarely have to take my bike to bits so my memory isn't too reliable.

Yeah I'm not sure it's actually a bush for the timing side. if it is it I don't think it ever ran, it really looked like a spacer to me and there is no wear on any of the surfaces you'd expect.SPRIDDLER wrote:There are only two components with a taper and a keyway on a '54 18S that I can think of. They look like the nuts that go inside the rear mudguard on the top suspension mount, you should have a large hole in the rear mudguard at this location the OD of the shaft on the nut. They are designed to fit flush (ish) to avoid catching the tyre.

The steel ring with the measurement of 0.532†fills the gap between the inside face of the oil supply union, and the face of the engine case as seen below.
Important: the oil supply port on this engine is the bottom hole! As pictured, the supply union is in the wrong port!
