Are there different viscosity 'scales' for the different types of oil?

The 'straight' SAE50 mineral oil I use in my Burman and AMC gearboxes is much 'thicker' than the 80w90 EP multi-grade oil that I use in my Triumph gearboxes... at room temperature, at least!
I'm from the Fens.... Gimme six.

Yeah, I believe so, NGLI, SAE, etc. etc. As far as I can tell, it's like buying audio equipment with it's "RMS" values.
Fix it until it's broken!

Otherwise how will
anything get done?

How much oil should be used? The burman manual I have talks about 2-3 ounces of grease, what might this be in oil? 🤔

Hi

I'm not sure what manual you are referencing but the 55 singles manuals tell you not to use grease but 1 pint of their recommended oil.

Grease was only used in the earlier Burman CP boxes and it was not really a grease a sort of grease oil mix.
