Fuel Tank Query

Hi

Just a quick question. A friend has just bought a 1960 AJS Model 31, alternator version. It has a a fuel tank that has chrome side panels surrounded by blue piping, the same as on my Deluxe version (mag/dynamo) from the same year. I though the chrome panels were only on the Deluxe bikes; is that not the case, or was it an option at the time?

Lots of people add them to bling up a standard model. Was that the one advertised on the most well known auction site last week?

I'm not sure. It was up for £5k or nearest offer apparently. He got it for less than that, and it seems like a decent bike.
