Being a cheapskate long ago I made up a "clutch sprag" tool by using a tired plain plate and drilling three holes in the long suffering spark plug spanner's flat blade. Three bolts and Bob's your second cousin. The box spanner bit on the end of the blade makes a nice handle to hold and if necessary a stout screwdriver through the box spanner part provides even more resistance to spinning if lodged somewhere.

Once done, disassemble plug spanner from plain plate.

Hi

Man after my own heart  unfortunately I didn't have any spare plates - - - - and I guess Mark doesn't either

Are there old plates to be had out there or are they all sitting in the 'might come in handy' boxes of classic motorcyclists?

Regards Mick

I must admit I am enjoying this thread. It's like a live version of a workshop manual, only better. You can't buy this stuff. A hundred years of knowledge between you lot. I reckon you should all get together and write a book before it gets lost.

Maybe it's time you visit a few jumbles. I sold at least 10 old plates for just £1 each. Before you ask, I don't post. See you at Kempton!

Evening gents - update time!

After a call to Mick (thanks mate!), I finished stripping the gears out of the box and after checking it all over, I dry assembled and now have all gears selectable!!!

I didn't remove the remains of the clutch as I don't have the correct tools, but I'm ready to reassemble the box tomorrow and move on to the clutch.

I'm learning so much, I was really impressed by the simplicity of the B52 box and how obvious the placement of each part was.

Gear box all back together, new seals on outer case and new gaskets. Will fill with oil tomorrow and see how oil tight it is! All four gears selectable, fingers crossed I've done it properly!

Thanks for everyone's help so far!
