Head stock bearing cups buggered
Afternoon to the collective!
Today's question is about the bearing cups in the steering column of my G80S, as you can see from the photo they are badly notched. Whilst I can replace the two loose cups, the two that are pressed on are apparently not available any more. What have others done about this?
One suggestion already is to contact a local engineering company about polishing them out but I don't know where to start with that! Do I just live with the notchy steering?!

You're a lucky boy, get in quick as the parts service has just had some delivered, it was the frame races that were not available the pressed ones have always been available. Limited stock at the moment as we rejected quite a few of the batch supplied but hopefully the outstanding quantity won't be too long in coming in, however experience has shown us it isn't always the case.

Re: Head stock bearing cups buggered
If I'm reading the parts diagram correctly I need four cups:
Race bearing cup 000806 x2
Race cup steering column 000805 x1
Bearing cup handlebar lug 012620 x1
Are all of these available then?

It seems that 000806 and 000805 are not available in the club shop, is that what you meant, Rob?

can I pit twopennywoth in? when I reassemble this kind of thing I wipe the faces with Wynns friction proofing then use moby grease, that which is used in car constant velocity joints small sachet £1 if you don't want a tub, some will say your balls may skid but this hasn't happened to me. Kind regards

Hi
The damage you have suffered is brinelling - usually caused by the bearings having too much play. Keep them correctly adjusted and you'll not see a recurrence.
I use standard wheel bearing grease to lube them, I think moly is a little on the thin side for a bearing without a seal or boot.
Regards Mick
