That picture is before the site was developed. Copes had at least three outlets, I think maybe even five. There was that one, that had the pumps until they closed down. One in King Street, dudley. That became streetbike and is now dudley motorcycle centre (dmc) and I think they had what became kawasaki city in West Bromwich (part of streetbike). It went bump because it supported all the family. They were known to pull up in their motors, usually a roller, fill up at the pumps and off they'd go.
At least one of the copes brothers raced at the iom. My friend has two framed photographs of one of them racing. One is on a norton and I think the other is an aj. I think they both in the 50s.

There was a Copes in Newcastle under Lyme, maybe same company. D H Autos, the bike clothing gear specialist has got it now. Opposite what was the Chrystal dance hall, seems like only yesterday,,, sob,,,,

I find it fascinating the way these things meander off in different directions. 20 years ago i wished id been born 20 years earlier - not so keen on the concept now though ;) Ill stick to reading about what ive missed and listening to the older guys at the club talking about it. Several of those are well into their 80s now and still riding, though most are now using modern scooters or lightweights with electric start. Having said that theres one chap in his 90s that still turns up on his 37 Speedtwin hes had since he was a lad :)
