Excellent 1956 competition film.

Post by SPRIDDLER »

I guess most of us have seen innumerable grainy silent films of the 50's and 60's with unidentifiable smudges of bikes whizzing round in clouds of dust. I certainly have, but this one is far superior to any I've seen.
It covers 3 events in 1956:
Scarborough 500, Welsh 3 days trial, Int'l Motocross G.P. Hawkstone Park. I'm not so interested in the racing one but the second and third events are my favourites.

This well worth a watch. The first film reminded me of No Limit with George Formby with the commentary, and I loved the fact the Welsh trial was patronising to the extreme! I love the fact the participants had to replace a tyre then a tappet cover and a hot silencer! Thank you :)

Marvelous and thanks Nev. Wonder how many folks could change a front tyre in 10 mins nowadays!
They never mention enough about the bikes or just the makes even in these old films, its always about the rider.

I suppose back in the day, they were just bikes and not the stuff that today's dreams are made of ;)
