Re: Heavy bike centrestand problems.
I have 6 stands on my bikes and the only one I had trouble with was a new spring as they aren't wound the same as the originals. I swapped it for an old original and bingo no more issues. There does seem to be a fair bit of differences in the centrestand springs available and when I took an old one to check at Kettering they were different again! The weight is in the solid centre rod but once adjusted the stand should flip up with a nice clunk and hold in the clip. If it doesn't then you've got to start adjusting and/or look for a good original. Or as Dave did risk losing a finger and put another turn on a weaker spring.

Are the Kettering replacement springs hard to fit or just not as tight as an original Rob? I shudder to imagine adding an extra turn - wouldn't it break?
As for the flat spring - are they mild steel or springy?

Spring steel. As for the springs, just wound differently, I don't have much of a struggle with the springs so can't comment either way.

That's possible, 40yrs of building work does tend to build you up somewhat. Trouble is it also kills you at the same time!56G80S wrote:Rob

Dad was a builder. Only 5ft 6 in with 44inch chest, strong as a horse. Lasted into his 80's.
You'll be fine.
