Go for someone who just does bikes. Also, the tanks (petrol, oil), toolbox, mudguards and headlight shell are the shiny bits that can make your bike look either scruffy or a show winner. After spending all your time and money restoring the engine, frame etc, its the 'clothes' the bike wears that makes it stand out - therefore get the best paint job you can (in 2K).

I've had a few bikes done by Glenn and so have other section members, everyone has been spot on. Several yrs down the line they are still looking great.

Are they the correct transfers on the oil tank and side panel. Don't look like they are to me.

I've also had tanks etc done by Glenn and they are very good. You could also try Terry Potter who advertises as Precision Motorcycle Paintwork and he's in Newport Pagnell. He painted two of my tanks over twenty years ago and both are still excellent but he is (or was) much more expensive than Glenn.

Thanks all - I'll contact Glenn
Totally agree with the bike specialists - I had my last bike painted by a local (very good) classic car restorer - all plain paint work but had to refuse the tank 3 times. When the bill came it included labour for the 3 rejections - you can imagine the conversation we had!!

Re: Tank painting recommendation please
I stripped it down to bare metal all over, treated the inside for rust using a professional treatment, thenI lead loaded the small dent where the valve lifter 'touched' it in the usual place, etch primed it used two coats of 1k black, then finished off with three coats of "petrol proof" (that remains to be seen!) lacquer. I didn't want to use 2k as I don't have a proper respirator.
I cut it back using rubbing compound, T Cut, Autoglym, Dodo Carnuba wax then finished with Dodo paint sealer. It came out pretty shiny.
I just have to get the gold D lines painted on. I have contacted a professional to do those, but during lockdown I might have a go myself. I did it last time and it was ok, but it took a while (ages!) to get it right.
This is my "lockdown" project!
