Haynes hiccup

Advancing years and rh arthritis had me struggling a bit with the old g12 last year so decided on an elderly 175 Honda complete with seized engine as a winter time project. Haynes manual on page 12 states torque wrench setting of 16.6 to 20.2 ft lbs for the 8mm crankcase bolts, seemed a bit excessive, maybe as well I chickened out for on page 40 instructions are to tighten to a torque of 11.5 to 12.2 ft lbs, quite a difference.
Moral of the story, double check when using a Haynes manual.

Might be useful to log onto a Honda club. For the Yamaha, although I have a Haynes, I now also have the factory manual for dealers - through XJRider.

The only time I have ever used a torque wrench ended in disaster! Too tight can be worse than too loose!I do it by intuition/experience, you can "feel" by the size of the bolt and the length of your spanner!
