H/wt swing arm pivot.

Mr. D. Madden also replaces the felt rings with o-rings whenever the arm is removed & the screw with a grease fitting.

On all hidden grease fittings & replace permanantly with metric type from the hardware, (ironmongers) to be able to use modern grease guns. You can match the original threads with a metric that fits nicely.

Cheers, Don.

Ahh, I remember the days when we had ironmongers. Sadly they all went and now if you ask for anything at B&Q etc you are met with a 'if its not on the shelves..........

One good point of the Vincent is that they have a similar arrangement, but using taper rollers, which could be adjusted, allbeit with shims. The bearings were identical to the wheel bearings.

Slightly off the marque but on my Hinckley 900 Sprint there is no means of greasing the swing arm. It is necessary to dismantle the rear suspension and to pack grease into the bearings

You've got me thinking ,now,Anthony (never a good sign)I must have a look at how it's done on my Hinkley 1050st.I assumed that like modern cars, then modern 'bikes had sealed bearings.
Hard work never killed anyone.....but why take the risk?

If you keep one long enough a modern will leak. Of course by then, it may not be modern. :D]

Out of interest, is the grease nipple mentioned in an earlier post the one shown below:

000051 L145A.GREASE NIPPLE

I want to make sure I order the correct one from the spares scheme!

Thanks.

Neither the left nor right side on my 1957 M30 have provision for oiling the swing arm that I can see..!
Am I missing something or should I just drill and tap the RH side to provide oiling 💦❓
