Twin sidelights
Hi,
Does anyone know whether the pair of Lucas L516 sidelights either side of the headlight on fifties twins were painted or chrome?
Also, is there a source for spare lenses, Lucas part 573615, in glass? I've found them in plastic but I would prefer glass, if poss.
Thanks

The AMC torpedo lights were painted black with chrome bezels around the glass. Chrome bodied ones were fitted to Austin cars A50 I think glass for either will fit.

Re: Twin sidelights
The Torpedo lights were also used on Jaguar's cars. The Jag's had a chrome part recessed in the wing, in which the Torpedo lights were fitted. Black body / chrome rim lights, were not common on bike jumble stalls. More easily found on car stalls. I picked up a set of Jag. lights with all the fittings, quite cheap. The stall holder was surprised when I gave him the Jag. chrome wing inserts & fittings back. As they were more difficult to find than the lights. I am sure he gave me some odd spare light bits in return.
I have never come across plastic lens, but did find some stainless steel rims.

New car types are available in chrome http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/p ... tegory/137 lenses are listed but do not state if they are glass or plastic http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/p ... tegory/137 however the complete unit states it is glass, unfortunately they are clear and not frosted.

Thanks, guys.
By the way, the autoelectric spare lenses, part number 177013 (Lucas 573615) are plastic, so I assume their lights (Lucas L516) also have plastic lenses.

Plastic may yellow with age, perhaps look more like opal tinted glass
