Heavyweight Singles Cylinder Head Bolt material

Post by Andy51 »

I have just taken the head off my '54 AJS 18S and found that one of the cylinder head bolts has a 16mm head - it must have been made by someone with access to metric bar stock. I must have known this as I rebuilt it 11 years ago, but forgot! The bolt, part no 010932, is listed as limited availability. If AMOC spare cannot provide, it would be a quick job to make one on my Myford using correct stock. Are these bolts made from ordinary mild steel (easy to obtain) or hi-tensile material? Thanks, Andy

Hi

I'd go for four new ones - at least that way you know they will all stretch / expand at the same rate. Peace of mind for around £20

Or of course make four yourself from the same stock.
