pressure Cooker for Cleaning Engine Parts
Has anyone ever used a domestic pressure cooker to clean parts? Possibly with a small amount of vinegar added? The wife is at work and I thought it might be a good way to clean a small barrel I have. Cheers. Bruce.

Your wife will clean a 12 gauge barrel in your direction.

She will never know! If the kitchen smells of vinegar I'll tell her I used it to clean the stainless steel extractor.
Actually I tried it with a small amount of vinegar in the water and it didn't seem to want to come up to pressure. So I've tried it again and it works fine with just water. If nothing else it should remove the grease. Naturally I will give the pressure cooker a thorough clean with vinegar afterwards.
So it's on the hob now for twenty minutes.
I've used the dishwasher before to degrease things. I think I put a chainguard in it but I can't remember now. The pressure cooker should be more effective though.
Cheers. Bruce.

Success. The barrel is completely degreased - it just looks slightly rusty now. I know I should have put some Jenolite in with it!
The kitchen has a slight odour. It's that lovely smell that you get when you walk into your workshop. I've got all the windows open as the wife generally prefers Chanel to Castrol.
Cheers. Bruce.

Hi
I've used dishwasher tablets in hot water as a degreaser before, worked very well in conjunction with a stiff brush - never had the courage to go the whole hog and use the dishwasher itself.
Regards Mick

Seems like you got away with it. Just don't dare laugh at dinner, if your wife pulls an odd looking face and say's. These Spuds taste like a motor bike barrel.

Many years ago , I had crankcase and heads and other parts bead blasted ,
and thought the dishwasher would do the final clean .
It did ,
but the dish washer pump was never the same ,

Confess to using the old dishwasher, but not the new one.

Clearly, no such white goods limitations for one Sussex bachelor (eh, Peter?).....56G80S wrote:Confess to using the old dishwasher, but not the new one.
