Re: What bike
Hard to see frame, but looks like single downtube, so 1957 to 1959?
Alternator, so 1958 or 1959.
Barrel looks more like a 350cc.
Transfer looks like Matchless.
So a 1958/59 G3LS?
Dual fuel tanks for long range an optional extra.
If I am right do I win a prize?

Re: What bike
Thanks Les, not sure myself yet.
The oil filler cap seems different, like it's on an angle on top of oil tank, rather than on a small stem on top of tank.
Thought the badge might have been an AFS.

Re: What bike
I would say twin down tube short head lamp brackets so 1960 onwards. Do I get the prize.

Re: What bike
I think it looks like a 63 short stroke.

Re: What bike
Most likely 63 if the oil tank is the rounded type, but would a short stroke not have enclosed pushrods?

Re: What bike
Could it be a 1963 Matchless Mercury ? if so it would be the red tank with pretty badge (although as Duncan states the pushrods should be enclosed).
I will update with frame/engine number when received early next week.
Hopefully all will become clear....

Re: What bike
Looking closely on a big screen, rather than a tablet, I can see Roy is right in that it is a 1960 on duplex frame.
The top of the 2 petrol tanks looks like the 1963 on style.
