Dynamo Connections

Post by spookefoote1956 »

Hello I have a lucas dynamo on my 1956 model 18. None of the dynamo connections are marked F or D. Which one is the Field? (left or right) as I want to flash the dynamo and I'm not sure which is which.

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris

Take the cover off and look at the wiring inside. The D will be connected to one of the brushes.

Hi Chris

I have just been out to the garage and looked at my two G80s and they are both wired with the green wire (which is the F connection) on the the left hand terminal so unless they are both wired incorrectly that is the one you are looking for. I am pretty sure you can get the end cover off in situ by removing the end screw but you may need to slacken the clamp band a little to finally release it.

You may find this article useful https://matchlessclueless.com/electrica ... as-dynamo/ It confirms that the F terminal should be on the left.

Thanks Jim. I had the leads the wrong way round. Flashed it then put them back in. Ameter showed a healthy charge, well at least for a while. I'll chuck the multimeter on it for a more thorough check. Your help is much appreciated.

Just an update. The bullet connections (I know wrong size) were obviously a bit loose so I cut the legs off a brass paper fastener and folded them over. They make an excellent shim and the electrical contact is great too!
