Missing Frame number

Post by YKC »

Hi

I am new to the Matchless/AJS world so hoping one of you can help. I have located a Matchless G3 in Zimbabwe which I was interested in purchasing and importing into the UK. The log book in Zimbabwe lists its year first used as new as 1965, the Engine number as 42615 and frame number as 26002. I have a photo of the engine number and it show G3/42615 so good so far. However, the owner in Zimbabwe can not locate the frame number anywhere! Can anyone help me where to find it on the frame? Is the engine number correct for that year? Not sure if this helps to date it but it has large plastic chrome effect badges. I tried entering the frame number into club online dating register but it didn't recoginse the frame number. Apparently it is quite common for these to be incorrect entered in Zimbabwe.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Not sure whether the numbers themselves are correct, but the frame number should be visible on the rh side of the frame just below the head stock. Heavily painted over perhaps?
