Heating the side stand

Post by Ib-Denmark »

Hi
My side stand (G12 1965) has a small bend.
I would like to straighten it up.
Bu I am afraid heating it up to red.
Does anybody know witch material it is made of?
(If it is grey cast iron I will not touch it :? )
Any experience?
Regards Ib

It will be malleable cast iron (same as footrests), so no problem with heating and bending.

Malc, you're correct, malleable cast iron is cold worked. I have used heat to restrict the bending to a certain area though, especially for twisted sections.

Thanks

I'd definately use heat if I wasn't taking it off the frame.
