Re: Wd frame number
You need to be more specific The G3 was only prewar or late post war. There were very few prewar WD G3's, Then came the 1940 G3WO with girder forks, Followed by, 41G3L with tele forks followed on post war as G3L and other G3 models. Each time prewar, G3WO, G3L & post war G3L, numbers were restarted. So you cannot date a number, until you ID what model the frame is. The main points to look for are usually is it WD or post war. Post a picture so the experts can tell you first if it is a WD Frame. As that is what you seek. 96801 number was used on a WD and a Post war bike. ( note; most WD bikes were G3L's, not G3's see above explanation )

Re: Wd frame number
Its a bit of a mine field, frame part numbers changed in 1948 so 46/47 still used WD frame part numbers. Your lowish number could mean it could be WD or not later than 1946 post war, as both have the same part number. Frame could be use for either???willowbedone wrote:Thanks Rob will be going to look at this frame a collection of parts soon so will know more then

Re: Wd frame number
Duncans post has prompted me to check G3WO numbers. Which did not , as my memory recalled, restart prior to the G3L . They appear to restart at 5000 in 1940. Which means your frame is G3WO or Post war G3L.,
So your bike may be from this G3WO contract or 1946 post war. There are no illustrations with this part list, so an expert eye will be needed to decide 1940 G3WO or 1946 G3L post war. You may find a huge clue being G3WO had a sidecar lug on the down tube, but 46 did not have the lug. But my memory is misty, some G3/WO's may not have had the lug. Let the experts give an opinion. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hi Rob, according to the link "G3-WO has horizontal bar for the front tank mountings – G3l has SPLAYED front tank mountings" so that should provide a good indication.
