Lots of Lecky but no spark (solved)

Post by spookefoote1956 »

Hello again. I've posted in this section in case you don't read the "garage" one. Finished all the wiring on the cub. Stick an allen key down the cap hang on to the bars and "Helloooooo ladies!". Put the plug in, hold onto the bars and I can get a similar tickle. Put the plug up against the head and no spark.

The system is boyer ignition and power box with ET from a brand new alternator going to a brand new ET coil. I'm guessing there's some kind of earth issue. Any thoughts?

Cheers, Chris :?

Hi

Run a temporary wire from the plug to the battery earth - if you get a spark then it's an earth problem - if you don't it's a supply problem, is the battery fully charged or at least above the Boyer trigger voltage?

Is the polarity of the coil correct?

Hi Chris

Take the wire to a common ground then.

A tickle ???
You're a tough guy. You should get what I'd call quite a wallop!

Tried that still no spark. Like I say though it earths quite happily through me to all points on the bike including bars, the earth bolt, cylinder head, barrel when I shove an allen key in the end of it. Can't help but feel I've been here before?

Cheers Chris

Several. They were all bought from the nice green spark man. I am however beginning to enjoy electrocuting myself.

Could I really have bought that many duff plugs? Maybee.........

I doubt that the brand new ET coil is knackered as it gives me such a jump. Mind you that could be the primary winding not the secondary?

Hi

Like Nev says - you should be getting a wallop not a tickle - ground the plug to the handlebars, if you don't get a spark you have a supply issue.

You won't feel anything from the primary winding supply - unless of course you can feel the output from a car battery ;)

I am getting a wallop with the allen key but not the plug. The supply is coming from the boyer powerbox. The powerbox is working because I kicked her over with the lights on and I got a flicker out of the tail light. I'll try grounding the plug to the bars again.
