Carb for G3LS
Hi All - I'm rebuilding a 1956 G3LS, which hasn't been run for over 20 years. (my 1st restoration project). The bike was mostly complete, but I understand the previous owner got ill and couldn't complete it many years ago. The bike is fitted with an Amal 626/L301 carb. However, in the spares book it states Amal 376/5 should be fitted. Will the 301 work effectively or do I need to splash out £200 for the right one (having trouble convincing the wife that I need to spend more money on this project!)?

Re: Carb for G3LS
Hi
Originally the bike would have had a 'Monobloc' carb fitted, the 376 you have identified. The 626 is a 'Concentric' which was regarded as a suitable / desirable replacement in the 70's.
If the concentric is correctly configured, (jets, throttle slide, needle position, bore), the bike will run fine.
Strip the carb and post details of what you find - whatever the case, (assuming the bore is correct), the Concentric can be configured for a lot less than £200.
