Should the rear mudguard on a 1953 bike have a hinged rear section or should the rear section separate from the front? I'm busy on eBay trying to find something suitable. My 18S currently has a well-rotted (BIG holes) two-piece rear guard where the rear section comes away; no hinge. Most of the repro stuff I find on eBay has a hinged rear section.
What's correct or shouldn't I be too worried?
OK, the parts list suggests the rear section separates.

On my 53 G9 twin the the rear section is held on by two shouldered bolts, plus the bolts through the lifting handles. the idea was slacken the bolts so the shoulders were clear then slide out the rear section
disconnecting the rear light ,brake light at the joint.

I think bitza has the right version on his bike.In the 80s, 'Chopper' from Hamrax suggested i fit anything i could find and not worry about it as their were not many mudguards around in those days.

In that case I may just fit the fibreglass repro I bought from Steven Surbey 10 years ago.alanengineer wrote:As long as it has a rib down the middle!

I have heard a lot of good things about the old fibreglass repros. Rather have one of those than an Indian made one. Shame they dont make them anymore
