dual output coil

Post by ajscomboman »

I'd like to run a dual output coil to replace the 2 separate coils of the original setup on a 65 model 31 with twin points. Most of the modern coils are for electronic ignition with low current requirements, does anybody know of a coil that can be used with twin points?

That is not a dual output coil.

Ron? Cheers Pat!

I had a dual coil on the shelf which works but after 10 mins loses the spark. I'm assuming it's getting too hot as it's probably for electronic ignition. The 65 31 uses the later type mushroom with twin points so need a suitable coil to power the system. Found plenty on fleabay but wanted recommendations, as you've tested this type I'll go for it.
Thanks Pete.

Assuming I've understood what you're asking for..................
I know this is heresy, but Honda* has put twin lead coils on non-electronic ignition bikes for decades, 6v and 12v being available. In fact, Nellie has one from a CD175 since the Sparsholt Jampot back in 2005, because her original set were breaking down. She still got me there and back without the requirement of a breakdown truck.

*other manufacturers are available.

Good point Janet and ironically enough I was just looking at a coil for a CB160.

Rob , not sure how a twin out put coil will work with a 2 point system , it works fine to replace a distributer. how are you planning on getting the HT connected to a single LT on the twin out put coil ?

personally id use a phazon electronic system to replace the twin point system
