Wellseal & Petrol

Post by spookefoote1956 »

Has anyone used Wellseal on the thread of their fuel tap?

Hi

I'd rather rely on a Dowty washer on the fuel tap but by all means back it up with Welseal - whilst fuel is a good medium to remove Welseal squeeze out from joints I don't think fuel actually dissolves it.

On an associated note, I now use Welseal as a mild thread locker - it's sticky enough to stop threads unwinding due to vibration even if they loosen, so my theory is you don't lose nuts and bolts, just re-torque them.

Cheers Mick. I'm currently using a dowty but the tap is still leaking from the thread end, which was the reason for my asking.

Hi Chris

If its leaking from the fuel pipe gland nut then you need to look at the condition of the cone and taper which should seal the connection at this point.

I always use PTFE tape on taps. Some people say its a bodge but its petrol proof, it wont leak and no one can see it.

I have used PTFE tape in the past - give it about a year and it turns to brown snot and starts leaking again. Loctite thread seal for me - lasted over two years so far.
