56 / G11 swing arm removal

Post by rodb »

Hi All,
I am about to remove the swing arm but thought i would check first in case theres any hidden downfalls.
I have removed the big washers each end and the long 2 ba bolt holding them together, do i have to remove the two cotter pins totally before it can be removed, can it be removed with the bushes in tact or do the bushes have to come out.

Thanks everybody

Hi

The cotters cannot be removed, they are scalloped to the hinge pin.

Loosen the nuts on the cotters and tap them back gently until they loosen. The hinge pin can now be drawn out, I use some threaded rod, heavy washers. nuts and tubing to make a puller, (don't be tempted to beat it out, if the bike has lain idle for any significant period the hinge pin will probably be seized in the frame casting or bushes).

You cannot remove the bushes until you have removed the swinging arm, they are fitted from the inside out.

Regards Mick
