There's a track test report by Vic Willoughby at Brands on that bike. Very difficult for a British rider, dry sliding on tarmac is an acquired skill for anybody. He complained that it ‘bit him', which I have always thought meant chucking him off.
I can't remember where I saw it, easy to check the Matchless books, but if it's in an old MCN in the loft it's a major search.
The one your friend has may be a copy or the real thing. Don't suppose anybody could tell the difference now.

Here's one on the G80RR by Vic W, halfway down the list:

Thanks for that Spriddler. The link to the road test didn't work (probably my IPad, it censors anything it can't recognise) but I found it longhand using google search for the editorial section. I admire the way you locate stuff in the archive, I struggle just to find it at all !
I believe it may be the same article I remember, but reprinted in a later publication than 1957. Mind you I used to avidly read the blue and green un, though I was just 12 then. Articles like that made me crave a Matchless, Courtesy of my Dad I got a 1957 ex-works 350 Trials when I was 17. £52 as I recall.

Hmm, I see what you mean.
It's here, under 'Editorial'......'Scramblers', about halfway down the list:

I'll amend my original post.

As far as finding the stuff goes I have to admit to having spent a lot of time over the years browsing the interesting material in the Archives on wet Sundays. ;)
