BURMAN GEAR ORDER?

Post by AndyCog »

Hey guys!

I am trying to rebuild my Burman Gearbox.
When I bought the bike many of the gear teeth were completely destroyed on several of the gears.
I have since sourced new parts but am unsure of their assembly order.
Please can someone help me make sure I have the right gear order?

Here's some info -
Matchless G80s 1953
Burman Gear box has the following info stamped onto it -
G-1-2 VAF
GB2 A D53
R644
929

I'm worried I might make the same possible mistake the previous owner did..
The gears have numbers stamped onto them regarding how many teeth they have, please see the image below to see if i have the right order -

Mainshaft -

Drive gear 22 24 17

Layshaft

18 25 21 29

Is this correct? Any help, advice, links to documents would be super appreciated!
Thanks!

Welcome to the Forums, Andy.
Have a look at page 21 in the Spares list which gives the number of teeth for each gear:

You will also find useful info on Burman g/box strip and rebuild under 'Transmission' here:

Brilliant! Thanks very much for the quick reply.
Looks like my 24t and 25t gears are mixed up.. I'd suspected this.
This particular sketch from Ray came in very handy.
