Hi, I have just started to strip my 1955 G3LS engine and have found both push rods marked and the threads on the top oil way damaged ( please see attached photo's ) this was covered in some kind of sealant by previous owner, any advice or suggestions much appreciated

Kind regards

The damage on the pushrods is usually because of pattern pushrod tubes which have too much 'turnover' at the top. They can easily be relieved with a rat tail file, dremel etc. The oil line union is much more difficult to sort out. It could be helicoiled, or welded, drilled and tapped back to size. It's hard to see how bad it actually is but if it's not too bad it might clean up with a 1/4" BSP tap. There's a very good U Tube video of Dick Tracy drilling and tapping the union to a bigger size. He makes up a special union fitting.

What's that, Trigger? ( ;) ) Do you mean the guy name of Dick Casey?

Here are all of his 43 superb videos covering almost every fettling job on an AMC single engine, gearbox and some electrics.

This is the one with the oil union repair.

Hi, Thank you both for your advice, very much appreciated, our son's friend has got a lathe so when fully stripped down I will let him have a look at it.
Best regards
