1960 G9 Front forks

Post by rodb »

Hello all,
I am more than a bit confused as to what oil and how much to put in my front forks.
Roy bacons book says for 51 -63 forks 184cc
Workshop manual says SAE 30 70cc's
Instruction book says SAE 20 61/2 Fluid ounces or 184 cc's
Can anyone please tell the correct grade / or modern equivalent and the correct amount.

thanks in anticipation.

6-1/2 oz per dry [ newly built )leg . 20 or 30 ? grade oil depends on the weight and riding preference of the rider. If the springs are old and a little on the softer side then the heavier grade oil may suit better. Experiment with the lighter oil first though.

my brother once bought a 650 and we thought the forks were seized solid. When we removed the fork caps they were full to the top with oil! Worked much better when we put the right amount in.
