Model 14 gearbox
How do you tell which selector is which i.e. layshaft and main shaft?

Re: Model 14 gearbox
If you look in this thread http://www.jampot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=27617 you'll find a photo of my gearbox. The selector fork on the left is 041341 for the mainshaft and the one on the right is 041343 for the layshaft. On the latter, the little knobbly bit that fits in the groove on the curved plate thingy is at 180 degrees from the fork prongs. On the former, it is about 90 degrees.
Note: I'd recommend you either ignore anything I say or check with a man before following any technical advice from me.

Re: Model 14 gearbox
Hi Ernie,
They only fit one way around
I haven't got a gearbox to hand to check, but I'm fairly certain the "straight" one is for the mainshaft and the one with the peg at 90 degrees is for the layshaft.
Which I think is the opposite of what Janet said, so maybe flip a coin?

Good luck!

Re: Model 14 gearbox
You're a man aren't you? He can check with you now, as I recommended. Eyup lad, I don't even know which is called the lay shaft and which is called the mainshaft.
Some people wonder why I'm not seen around here much anymore.Well, there's only so much self-humiliation I can take. If some kind person reassembling his gearbox would have a good look to see where the two forks fit ( preferably describing which is which eg where the knobs are) and compare them with those on my photo, so I could correct it, I'd be very grateful. I did try to set out all the bits in the right order and facing the proper way but so many look the same to me.

This is how we all learn Janet! We all need to keep posting - right or wrong
Hopefully someone with an actual gearbox in actual pieces will be along shortly to set the record straight...
