Cylinder oiling
Hi all, I have recently removed the head on my 1953 G80s and found the barrel(inside !!) to be very dry. Has anyone experienced similar and can anyone suggest a solution ??

By very dry, do you mean no oil film at all?
If the motor has been running with oil circulating and with no problems, there will be a slight film of oil. Wipe a dry tissue around the bore and see what comes out.
The (solution?) reason will be that the oil control ring is doing it's job.
How much oil did you expect to find in there?

Thanks Paul for quick response. Over last few weeks the motor has been getting more and more difficult to kick over when cold. Thats why I removed head, AND now the barrel. The barrel and piston are showing signs of scratching but no sign of any oiling. Nothing appears to be broken and when running the engine oil was being retuned to tank as per norm. With barrel and piston removed the crank turns freely.

I would suggest you are in some trouble, and if its as bad as you say I advocate an engine strip before any bigger damage is done, not a problem I have ever come across.

Are they just visual, or can you feel them with a finger nail?
(I'm not being pedantic here but you've posted your G80 question in the G2/Model 14 (Lightweight)section which might not be viewed and commented on by Heavyweight owners).Edited by - SPRIDDLER on 16 Jul 2012 10:53:20 PM
