Hi all. I've just bitten the bullet and went for a 1966 G2-csr. Not sure if this was wise now that I've had more time to look over the bike at home. Anyway it's done now. Don't know how I missed it but there's a big chunk missing from one of the lower fins on the barrel. Guess either a repair or replacement barrel is in order.

Still it runs and has an Mot.

Well done Darren. Fin repairs are fairly straighforward I believe. Looks good Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for the encouragement Ian. First job is a broken kickstart spring which I knew about.

Gearboxs can be tricky, the two end plates (the big outer and the flat inner ) tend to come off together and can often pull all the races with them. Don't panic. It is a simple gear box very easy on the bench slightly more fiddly on the bike.

Try this from the archive http://archives.jampot.dk/Technical/Tra ... ebuild.pdf

Doesn't the mainshaft nut prevent the inner plate from pulling off completely? I did my kickstart spring on the bike and whilst the thin plate did move out a bit when I pulled the outer cover off the nut stopped it coming off completely. When all done I tightened it all up with a new gasket on the outer cover and no leaks, except from the kickstart seal again which I replaced as well at the time???
