Gort55/Rosco, clearly you're very enthusiastic about your bike and asking for advice before you do anything wrong, but, as one who is still finding my way around my bike, my advice would be to get a workshop manual. I know it's a bit like instructions, which it is rumoured men never read , but it will help.

Now then Janet,
Why should we men follow instructions from a book when there are so many members of the fair sex (or perhaps I ought to say 'gender') who tell us what we must do???
And you need not hate the photographic models, your own attributes are just as valuable.
Best regards.

Thanks everyone and just to clear a point, the letter C now added to champion plugs stands for copper core.

Yep, but what was the core made from before when the plug was only a lowly "N4"!?!

I'm using an NGK B7EV in my 1960 AJS Model 8. This is a Gold-Palladium tipped plug and I bought it from eBay for £3 (they are usually MUCH more expensive - think £8-9).

Extensive tests down the pub have shown the bike runs consistently better with the B7EV installed, compared to a B7ES or an N3C. Tickover is noticeably better.

It's not worth buying one at £9 each but they do sometimes appear on eBay cheap(er).
