250 csr exhaust systems

Careful is the right word when packing an exhaust or silencer with wire wool - it gets very hot and being 'wool' like it's thin enough to easily burn up. I tried using some in the early 70`s on a Yamaha 250 two-stroke. The silencing effect was obvious but short lived. I looked in the mirror after about half a mile and what I saw resembled the battle at Midway - all I could see through the smoke were the weaving headlamps of the cars behind and the balls of flame being fired from my silencers.
