ajs 14 / matchless g2 chain size

Hi All
Do's any one now the drive chain size for AJS 14 ? Manual says 1/2 x 0.305 but every one I have asked says they've never herd of it.The modern equiverlant should be one of these : 420 /428 /520 /530 ? but which one ?

1/2"x.305 is a standard size, stocked by the club spares scheme. You a talking to the wrong people.

Well the numbers you have been quoted are also based on inch measurements. The numbering system is based on the rule of eights. The first digit indicates the pitch in number of eights, your chain's 1/2" = 4/8", so the first digit should be a "4". The next two digits indicate the width again in eights of an inch and the closest will be 2.5/8, making the last two digits 25. So it appears that a 425 chain will be the closest match, giving just 0,2mm width clearance. You can calculate
other sizes based on this formula.
