Headlight units

Post by Paul R »

Can any kind soul point me in the right direction regarding rim and reflector units that will fit an original healamp shell ? The outside diameter where the rim fits is slightly over 6.5 inches . Wipac rims and light units seem to be almost totally unobtainable so can ,for example , a lucas rim and relector be made to fit ? I dont have either for comparison at the moment unfortunately . Any help would be great if it avoids guesswork . Cheers. Paul.

Who have you tried? Club Spares dep't?
Worth a try as the website says stock 'Limited' - not 'Unavailable'.

Thanks for that chaps . I did look up the parts numbers in the spares list I have ( 043184 and 043130 ) but that showed up nothing on the AMOC parts search ( the only list I have is one from 1960 ). I would guess then that 1960 may have been for the "stepped rim" I have read about ,but never seen ,and its associated unit . I'll get in touch with AMOC spares and see what's what tommorow . If no luck may be looking at a fizzy unit to see if that will go in the rim . There is one on ebay at moment . Cheers .

The early lightweights like mine originally had a stepped headlamp rim with a smaller headlamp then they changed to the standard 7" headlamp as far as I know. check out the picture of my AJS and Steve Randall's Matchless taken at the rally a few years back

OK . That explains it all now . suplementary parts lists 61 1nd 62 still show the "old " parts numbers as in 1960 but the picture of the 2 side by side clearly shows where confusion on my part lay . Thanks to all for shining a light on this (groan  ) Cheers .

Rim changed in 1959/60, there was a later change from glass + reflector to the prefocus unit. You do need parts for the headlamp fitted, which may have been changed. No point in looking at the 1962/66 parts list in the archives, as half the pages are missing. Which includes Headlamp.
When I asked if anyone had this parts list complete no one replied.
Look here, but first look in archives for Wipac pt. no.s https://www.britbikes.co.uk/headlights- ... -168-c.asp They have the 6 1/2" AMC type inner rim.

Hi just a quick reference to Paul quoting 7 inch headlamp on later versions - The headlight shells are all the same so its a 6 1/2 inch reflector its the chrome rim that differs.

Mine as you can see from the photo looks like a 7 inch rim but its not.

The reflector unit show from our stores is the unit i have the bike.

I managed to get a new old stock Wipac rim from ebay via the USA!!

I guess you just need to keep looking for the rim.

Cheers
