Re the slap and clacking sound at tickover. I couldn't live with it and also had around 1mm end float of the cam. Did the forum search as suggested, that helped no end, so bought and fitted shims behind the inner cover.
No ‘clacking' now.

If I'm correct in thinking, the cam lobes are positioned offset to the tappet centerline, so to rotate them on contact to spread wear loading.

A cunning plan :)

The problem is on a lightweight is that the camshaft/gear/lobes are all one unit and you can only fit it one way
