I am trying to rebuild my gearbox and all is in the box in order, but I cannot get the intermediate cover plate on. Everything goes in and the cover goes on but stops short about 1/4" short, about the length of the locating pins. The pins appear to be lined up with the holes ok, but I cannot get it to go the last distance. The book warns against using force, and I have tried gentle tapping with a rubber mallet several times, but with no success.
Can anyone offer any advice please.

Re: G2 Gearbox
It sounds like it's binding on the locating pins. Have you got the detent spring holder in? It's easier to put the box together if you take it out.
Other than that, it's just the mainshaft, layshaft and selector shaft and fork shaft...
